What is the microbiome?
The microbiome refers to trillions of bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses we share our bodies with. While these microorganisms are found in their largest numbers within the large and small intestines, they can also be found throughout the body, such as on our skin and in our mouths.
The microbiome is critical for aiding in various functions across the human body, such as breaking down specific sugars, producing vitamins, and supporting our immune system. Due to the importance of the relationship between our microbiome and our overall health, when our microbiome becomes imbalanced, known as dysbiosis, we can experience low energy or even increased susceptibility to disease.

What should I expect from my Injoy Microbiome report?
The Injoy Microbiome Test Kit works by having you take 3 samples total (1 every 5 days) so we can get an accurate picture of your microbiome and how it changes over time. We also compare your microbiome with all the data you have tracked in the Injoy app and point out any interesting correlations we see. Such as how your microbiome is trending with your sleep or specific symptoms. There are currently no other tests on the market designed to have multiple samples taken as a baseline approach to understanding your health.
With this information we provide a microbiome analysis (diversity, stability, and the levels of each bacteria found) as well as a personalized report. This includes your metabolic potential, inflammation score, lifestyle recommendations, dietary recommendations and more. We also look at bacteria important for sleep and exercise and provide ways you can modify your diet to help support these bacteria.
Most importantly, we provide you with an overall gut health score where we compare your microbiome to others on the spectrum of healthy to having gut health issues. This score represents the core of our innovation powered by artificial intelligence.

I heard everyone’s microbiome is different. So how can Injoy’s Microbiome Test be useful?
When it comes to microbiome profiling it is correct that the microbiomes of individual healthy people are unique. However, when it comes to people experiencing gut health issues similarities begin to arise. This allows us to generate profiles for different conditions and use them for comparison as new samples are sent to us. It is for this reason that people use Injoy to consistently test their microbiome to give them a general idea of their health and if they are potentially showing signs of decline towards inflammation or similarity to those with gut health issues.
How can the results from the Injoy Microbiome Test help someone with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) or Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)?
People with chronic gut health issues are frequently unable to access the care they need and as often as they’d like. One of the main purposes of the Injoy Microbiome Test is to provide people with a deeper understanding of their health from the comfort of their home.
People with IBS or IBD who have already taken our Microbiome Test have done so for a variety of reasons:
- To advocate to their caregivers. Whether it be for a diagnosis or purely informational.
- To help them identify trends in their health before they become severe and which symptoms are contributing to their condition most frequently.
- To see how their microbiome is responding to different medications and supplements
- Peace of mind that their symptoms are not in their head.
- General interest in the microbiome.
- And more.

Why should I test my microbiome frequently?
Having a consistent understanding of your microbiome and overall health is the best way to be proactive. In the same way someone with diabetes uses a glucometer to get a frequent understanding of their blood glucose, we believe people with gut health issues should have access to a tool to consistently understand their gut health. Providing people with the information they deserve to make informed decisions about their wellbeing.
How does Injoy’s microbiome test differ from other microbiome tests?
Our microbiome test was designed to allow people to understand how their microbiome is changing over time and to provide recommendations specific to the needs of those with gut health issues.
This is why our microbiome kit includes 3 samples instead of 1 (taken every 5 days) and helps you understand how your microbiome is changing along with your symptoms, diet, and lifestyle tracked in our app.

Is there anything that can impact my microbiome test results?
Yes, probiotics, travel, diet changes, new medications, and new supplements can all have an impact on your microbiome test results. That being said, these changes will represent the current state of your microbiome and should not prevent you from taking a microbiome test.
If you have recently taken antibiotics, NSAIDs, a colonoscopy prep or had surgery we recommend waiting the following amounts of time before taking a microbiome test. If not, your test results may be inaccurate due to the strong impact these items can have on your microbiome.
Antibiotics - 3 months
NSAIDs - 3 months
Surgery - 3 months
Colonoscopy Prep - 2 weeks

Do I need to use the attachable toilet stool catchers included with the kit?
No, we recommend swabbing your toilet paper to collect your samples.
Your in-app sample collection instructions will ask you to use the included swabs to collect a sample directly from your toilet paper.
We include stool catchers in the kit for people who have no stool on their toilet paper after they wipe. Instructions on how to use the attachable toilet stool catchers can be found in your in-app collection instructions after selecting "Don’t have enough?" on step 4.
